NEW MEXICO HOMEOWNER ASSISTANCE FUND

Mortgage payment assistance now available in New Mexico

Posted

Homeowners may now receive help with mortgage payments through the New Mexico Homeowner Assistance Fund program. The program will provide housing grants to income-eligible households experiencing financial hardship associated with the pandemic.

The New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority (MFA) in partnership with the State of New Mexico will administer homeowner assistance funds for home loan reinstatement, monthly payment assistance, homeowner taxes and homeowner insurance. Assistance does not have to be repaid.

Homeowners can apply at the MFA Housing New Mexico website at www.nmhomeownerassistancefund.org for up to $20,000 for delinquent housing or tax payments, monthly payments, and homeowner insurance.

Qualifications vary by the type of assistance requested. General eligibility requires homeowners to:

  1. Attest they experienced a financial hardship after Jan. 21, 2020, associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
  2. Provide income documentation and have incomes equal to or less than 150% of the area median income or 100% of the median income for the United States, whichever is greater.
  3. Currently own and occupy a primary residence in New Mexico.
  4. Not exceed an original loan balance $417,000, or the maximum loan limit in place at the time the home was purchased.
