Wow, Las Cruces—you really showed up.
You turned a 5K race into a Valentine’s event that was a sweeter experience than even the chocolates that followed.
I know the race organizers at Community Options, Inc. were grateful for your turnout. Every registration helps them help individuals with disabilities in finding housing and employment. That mission alone is worth running for. But what stood out most wasn’t just the cause—it was the people. Many thanks to you all.
To the runners, every one of you—every age, every pace, every body—you were impressive. I felt fortunate to run, jog, and walk alongside you. You pounded the pavement for over three miles in great time, PR or party pace—it all counted. And you looked great doing it—males and females alike sporting tutus, hairdos, and festive flair. Thank you for sharing your creativity and joy.
To the volunteers on the course, you sign wavers, water servers, and cowbell ringers, your fist bumps, cheers, and encouragement were well-timed and motivating. To the medal distributors, thank you for making us feel like winners.
Finally, to the sponsors and organizers. How many months of meetings, emails, and coordinating have gone into this? How long did it take to prepare the packets? How much sleep did you get the week before the event? Thank you for your hard work. The event ran smoothly, felt welcoming, and radiated purpose.
Your work paid off not just for Community Options, but also for Las Cruces. For one morning, we weren’t just individuals logging miles. We were a community, having fun, and moving together toward something good.
