NMSU searches for new athletic director

Posted

New Mexico State University announced that it has begun a nationwide search for a new athletic director.

In a press release, the university said that it is working with Parker Executive Search to find a replacement for Mario Moccia. Moccia was fired early this year.

According to a press conference held after the firing, NMSU President Valerio Ferme cited documents and reports from the New Mexico Department of Justice that found major systematic failures that led to the sexual assault scandal in the 2022-2023 men’s basketball season.

Amber Burdge has stepped into the athletic director position until a new person has been found.

In a statement, Ferme said that NMSU is “seeking individuals who enjoy the role of underdogs, both in our conference and on the national stage.”

A search committee made up of eight members has been formed to help look for potential candidates.

No timeline was given for when NMSU plans on hiring the new athletic director.
