According to the Las Cruces Police Department, an officer-involved shooting occurred during a response to an alleged domestic violence incident on Sunday in the 1900 block of Embassy Drive.
There were no major injuries, according to the LCPD.
LCPD were dispatched to a home on Embassy Drive at about 3:40 p.m. on Sunday, July 27. One of the individuals involved allegedly was armed with a firearm.
One LCPD officer discharged his firearm before a non-lethal use of force was used to take the individual, who is male, into custody, according to LCPD.
The man placed into custody was transported to a local hospital with non-gunshot, non-life-threatening injuries he obtained while police placed him into custody, the LCPD stated in a news release.
Dan Trujillo, LCPD spokesperson, told the Bulletin that LCPD Chief Jeremy Story will hold a press conference later in the week to provide more details. Currently, no new information is available.
The officer was not injured, the LCPD said in its news release. The officer will be placed on administrative leave which is standard procedure. The Officer-Involved Task Force, made up of officers from New Mexico State Police, the Las Cruces Police Department, Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State University Police, is investigating the officer’s gun discharge.
Embassy Drive near Hoagland Avenue was closed during the investigation Sunday.
Charges are pending against the male taken into custody.
