The Las Cruces Police Department arrested one suspect that police believe was involved in the shooting near Salopek Park that occurred late last week.

On Thursday, September 4, 2025, shortly before 4:30 p.m., police say that they were called out to the 400 block of Salopek Blvd. after receiving reports of gunfire in the area. Police say that two people were shot including 19-year-old Julia Clark who was transported to University Medical Center of El Paso. Clark succumbed to her injuries on Saturday, police said.

A 19-year-old man was also shot but he was transported to a local hospital and his injuries are not life threatening according to a press release from LCPD.

The police say that they have arrested 18-year-old Apolinar Rosales in connection with the shooting. Rosales has been charged with felony counts of voluntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence as well as a misdemeanor charge of resisting or obstructing.

LCPD said in the press release that they believe that at least one other person was involved in the shooting and encourage anyone with information to call them at (575) 526-0795.

On Saturday, police also received reports of gunfire near Young Park. When police arrived on the scene, they found multiple shell casings but no reports of injuries. At least two vehicles were stopped by police near the area and two young adults were arrested on misdemeanor charges. It remains unclear if the charges were related to the shots-fired calls.
