Online Auction Features 'Art Car'

The 49th Annual Renaissance ArtsFaire

Posted

Part of this year’s “NO FAIRE” virtual Renaissance ArtsFaire is an online auction with over one hundred and fifty donated items from generous artists, collectors, businesses and sponsors.  The Doña Ana Arts Council (DAAC) has partnered with the folks at Mesilla Valley Estate Sales who are experienced with online auctions and who are making sure all but credit card fees go to the non-profit.  According to DAAC executive director Greg Smith, “The auction preview started on Oct. 23; so, please take a look if you haven't yet had a chance to see it.”

A featured item in the auction is a one-of-a-kind “Art Car”, a 2012 Plug-In Toyota Prius, prepped and sealed by Jorge Montes of JH Paint Shop, then painted with regional themes by local artist and airbrush expert Luis Navarro.  Smith continued, “The teamwork also included input from the Arts Council, and we are very pleased with the result.  Navarro has incorporated petroglyphs from Three Rivers as well as the Milky Way above our Organ Mountains to make a piece of art that has to be seen.”

From now until Nov. 7, during daylight hours, the car will be either parked at the entrance to the Doña Ana Arts Council at 250 W. Amador, or driven around Las Cruces.  Anyone who spots the car, takes a photo and posts it on their Facebook page (and shares it with the Doña Ana Arts Council’s Facebook page), may claim a “NO FAIRE” button at the Arts Council office and enter their name to win a “NO FAIRE” tee-shirt.

Concludes Smith, “With our eyes so much on the universe in recent decades, as well as centuries ago when the petroglyphs were created, it seems very appropriate that we honor what is in our stone and in our sky with this work of art.”

Bidding starts on Nov. 1 at New Mexico Estate Auctions at www.nmestateauctions.com/ with more information on the Arts Council website at www.daarts.org.   Bids will close the evening of November 7.

The Renaissance ArtsFaire is an annual fundraising event produced by the Doña Ana Arts Council since 1971.  The Arts Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a community where the arts thrive.  In addition to art festivals, the non-profit offers arts education for children, workshops and seminars for adults, and operates an art gallery featuring local artists.

The Doña Ana Arts Council offices, gallery and Arts & Cultural Center are located at 250 W. Amador Ave., Las Cruces, New Mexico.   The mailing address is PO Box 1721, Las Cruces, NM 88004.  For more information, please visit www.daarts.org or call the DAAC office at (575) 523-6403.
