Schumacher Veterinary Clinic named Rotary Club Business of Quarter

Posted

Schumacher Veterinary Clinic of Las Cruces has been named the Rio Grande Rotary Club’s Business of the Quarter.

The Rio Grande Rotary Club’s Business of the Quarter acknowledges a local business’s outstanding achievements and community involvement.

“We wanted to recognize the vital contributions of J. Kyle Schumacher DVM, CCRT, IVCA and all the members of the Schumacher Veterinary Clinic have made to City of Las Cruces community," said Ken Martin, president of the Rio Grande club.

Schumacher said in a statement that the veterinarian clinic launched an initiative after the death of Las Cruces Police Officer Jonah Hernandez while in the line of duty in February 2024.

“Schumacher Veterinary Clinic proudly joined the We Have Your 6 campaign to show our ongoing support for local law enforcement and first responders,” Schumacher said in a statement.

The We Have Your 6 campaign is an initiative of local business owners who offer discounts or other services to first responders.

“Inspired by this moment, we also launched a heartfelt initiative of our own: The Schumacher Grant. This special program was created to give back in the way we know best—by helping the animals,” Schumacher said in the statement.

The issues of homelessness, crime, and drug use in Las Cruces are complex—and while there are no simple solutions for helping every person, helping their pets is something we can do.

Schumacher said the idea started as something small – offering free vaccinations to pets at Camp Hope, grew with the help of clients, the community and supporters outside of the area.

“Within weeks, we expanded from basic vaccinations to providing full dog and cat aid bags, funding spay/neuter surgeries, and covering essential veterinary care,” Schumacher said.

The Schumacher Grant is now moving into a partnership with the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico to help expand our reach and goals as we continue to support both people and pets in need as well as our local law enforcement and first responders, according to a news release.

Schumacher Veterinary Clinic has been presented a commemorative plaque from the Rio Grande Rotary Club along with pizza for everyone at the clinic.

The Rio Grande Rotary Club considers its Business of the Quarter award based on the following criteria:

  • Creativity: Demonstrates different ideas regarding community support
    • Engagement: Active as a civic partner, with representation at community events
    • Response to Adversity: Facing challenges with optimism, focus on community support
