The victim of the fatal June 10th shooting that led to the alleged shooter barricading himself in a nearby hotel on Picacho Ave. has been identified as a local school bus driver.

The victim, Javier Lujan Garces, 29, was a school bus driver for the Las Cruces Public Schools district but was not driving a bus at the time of the shooting.

He was driving on Picacho when the alleged shooter, Pancho Garcia, shot him leading to him being pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement from Student Transportation Specialist New Mexico, the company LCPS contracts with to run the busses, said that the organization “are heartbroken by the unexpected and tragic loss of one of our team members in Las Cruces.

“Our thoughts are with their family, loved ones, and the entire STS of New Mexico community during this incredibly difficult time,” the company said in a statement to the Bulletin.

Garcia is due for an arraignment hearing on June 30. He is being charged with first degree murder.
