As temperatures begin to rise in Las Cruces, so too does the excitement surround a packed calendar of spring and summer sporting events. From youth tournaments to senior competitions, the city is set to welcome thousands of athletes, coaches, and families over the coming months. These are just a few of the many events being held in our city.
April kicks off the season with a series of bat-and-ball events. National Championship Sports returns to Las Cruces on April 11–12, bringing with it an estimated 60–70 teams. The tournament will feature age groups ranging from 5-and-under through 12-and-under, with teams traveling in from across the Southwest.
NCS has built a strong presence in Las Cruces over the years after initially being recruited out of Arizona, and it continues to host multiple events in the city annually.
The United States Specialty Sports Association Fastpitch season gets underway with the Swing into Spring tournament on April 24 – 26. This event consistently draws teams from New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Texas. Fast pitch tournaments are known for attracting entire families, giving visitors an opportunity to experience everything Las Cruces has to offer both on and off the field.
May brings even more energy, starting with the annual USSSA Slow Pitch Cinco de Mayo Invitational, scheduled for May 2–4. With more than 20 years of history, this event has become a staple in the community, offering a fun and competitive environment where teams and families come together to celebrate the sport of softball.
The Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament returns to the Field of Dreams for its second consecutive year May 15-17. Once home to the largest Gus Macker event in the United States, Las Cruces is once again embracing the fast-paced, outdoor basketball tradition. Organized by the Mayfield Football Booster Club, the event is expected to attract between 500 and 600 participants competing for bragging rights.
June continues the momentum with the debut of the Mesilla Valley Classic Boys Basketball Camp, taking place June 19–21. This new event is a collaborative effort between all four Las Cruces high schools — Mayfield, Las Cruces, Organ Mountain, and Centennial. Designed to provide valuable game experience, the camp guarantees each varsity team six games and is expected to host between 80 and 100 teams in its inaugural year. An officials clinic will also be offered, giving referees an opportunity to refine their skills and advance to higher levels of competition.
Las Cruces welcomes back the New Mexico Senior Olympics State Summer Games from June 17–21. The event typically attracts 500–600 athletes who will compete across a variety of venues, including courses, courts, fields, roads, and trails throughout the city. This year’s competition also serves as a qualifying event for the 2027 National Senior Games in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
July brings some of the largest and most anticipated events of the summer. The USSSA Baseball Kyle Falvey Global World Series will take place July 1–5 and is expected to draw approximately 150 teams. The event begins with team check-in, opening ceremonies, and a Parade of Teams at the Pan American Center, followed by a skills competition that includes base running and a home run derby. Tournament play starts with round-robin games before transitioning into a double-elimination bracket.
Later in the month, the USSSA Fastpitch El Gigante NIT will once again span two consecutive weekends — July 24–26 and July 31–August 2 — to accommodate its continued growth. With an expected 150–160 teams participating, the tournament has evolved into one of the premier fastpitch events in the region.
With a full slate of events on the horizon, Las Cruces is poised for a vibrant and active season. From youth athletes taking their first swings to seasoned competitors chasing championships, it promises to be a summer defined by competition, community, and a shared love of sport.
