Steel company eyeing Las Cruces

Las Cruces could become the Canadian steel company's first U.S. home base

The City of Las Cruces has announced that a Canadian steel manufacturer is considering making Las Cruces the home of its first manufacturing facility in the U.S.

Based out of Calgary, Endurance Technologies, Inc. says that it is looking to expand its operations into the U.S. to keep up with growing demand and Las Cruces has become a “leading candidate.” They primarily service the oil and gas, agriculture, mining, forestry, and industrial industries, and the company has been in business for over 30 years.

While nothing is set in stone yet, ETI said that it could hire 40 employees from the area, invest more than $11 million in the first three years and have an economic output of over $50 million according to a press release.

Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez said in a statement that ETI plans to renovate an abandoned building in the City of Las Cruces’ Innovation & Industrial Park located west of town and that the city is “thrilled about the possible opportunity.”

“Their investment in our community, from revitalizing a vacant property to creating quality jobs, aligns perfectly with our vision for economic growth and innovation. This project would not only strengthen our local economy but also showcase Las Cruces as a hub for industry and opportunity,” Enriquez said in a statement.

The press release came in the form of a joint statement from both the city and the State of New Mexico. Rob Black, cabinet secretary for the New Mexico Economic Development Department, praised this possible investment saying, “This is how we create lasting jobs, grow local economies, and ensure our communities don’t just get by — they get ahead.”

According to the City of Las Cruces, ETI is still evaluating and doing due diligence. No specific timeline is available, Mandy Leatherwood Gus, communications director for the city, told the Bulletin.
