NMSU needs a pool
Oh, come on! NMSU has $18 million for a new press box and not a dime for the university swimming pools? These pools are a disgrace to the university and have been closed for months. They are completely inoperative due to maintenance issues. Even before the pool closure, the locker rooms were unsanitary and dirty.
The university swim team has been forced to use the city aquatic center. This causes crowding for the general public who use the city pool.
I’ve been an avid swimmer since I was a small child. I try to swim three or four days a week, and the university pool closure has created serious crowding at the city pool. Even in retirement, I’ve kept swimming and have won nine Senior Olympic swimming medals.
Sports other than football and basketball need to matter at NMSU. The university needs to respect its swim team by re-opening the university pools or finding the money to rebuild them. It’s only fair.
