Kid Cans Youth Business Spotlight

Twin passions: jewelry and golf

Posted

Johanna Jo Contreras first learned about earning and managing money through the Sonoma Elementary Kids Can Program, an experience that inspired her entrepreneurial journey. The 13-year-old eighth grader at Mesilla Valley Christian School is proving that creativity and entrepreneurship go hand in hand.

As the owner of JC Jewelry, Johanna designs and creates handmade bracelets, necklaces, and earrings that showcase her artistic talent. Each jewelry piece is carefully handcrafted by cutting string or wire, adding colorful beads or charms, and finishing it with secure crimps and ties. Her creations typically take about five minutes to make and are sold for $5 to $10.

In addition to running her jewelry business, Johanna dreams of becoming a professional golfer. She enjoys meeting customers at local farmers markets and says the best part of owning her business is seeing people happy with the jewelry they purchase.

Johanna lives by the quote, "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better."

Her dedication, creativity, and positive attitude make JC Jewelry an inspiring example of young entrepreneurship in action.
