Prospectors rejoice! Rockhounding season is upon us and in the coming weeks you’ve got not one, not two, but three big shows to choose from across southern New Mexico. Rock on!
The Museum ROCKS! Gem & Mineral Show 2025
Taking place at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum, and sponsored by the Friends of the Museum, The Museum ROCKS! is a two-day event that brings together wholesale and resale dealers of both cut and uncut gemstones, rocks, minerals, fossils, meteorites, jewelry-making supplies and educational displays on the art and science of rocks and gems.
Times are 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, February 22; and 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Sunday, February 23. Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, $5 for ages 4-17, and free for ages 3 and under. The New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum is located at 4100 Dripping Springs Rd., in Las Cruces. Info: 575-522-1232
The Truth or Consequences Rock & Gem Show
Sponsored by the Sierra County Rock and Gem Society (SCRAGS), this show features vendors offering rocks and minerals, gems, beads, slabs, cabs, jewelry, and fossils. Other activities include geode cracking, kids rock painting and rock collecting, flint knapping, cabochon, and beading demos, gold and sapphire panning, presentations, field trips, and much more.
Times are 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, March 1 and 2. Admission and parking are free at the Sierra County Fairgrounds, 2953 S. Broadway St., Truth or Consequences. Info: SCRAGS.org
60th Jubilee Rockhound Roundup
Hosted by the Deming Gem & Mineral Society, this is the one that started it all, with a market selling geodes, gems, fossils, quartz and other treasures from the earth, alongside jewelry makers, lapidaries, and beaders. Other activities include silent and live auctions, demonstrations, guided field trips, and a metal detecting contest.
