Willis receives the NMPW's 2020 Communicator of Achievement award

Las Cruces Press Women (LCPW) has announced Damien Willis as the recipient of the New Mexico Press Women (NMPW) 2020 Communicator of Achievement award. He will go on to compete in the 2020 National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) Communicator of Achievement process.

Willis was a DJ at Hot 103 starting in 2001, and in 2005, the New Mexico Broadcasters Association named him Best DJ Personality. He has served as public information officer for the Third Judicial District Attorney’s office and director of communication for the Las Cruces Public Schools. In 2019 he returned to journalism as a lead reporter and coach at the Las Cruces Sun News, editing the paper and covering business while developing newsroom talent.

Willis has been active in Press Women at the local and state levesl, serving as secretary for LCPW and secretary, vice president and newsletter editor for NMPW. He’s been a member of the NFPW for three years.

LCPW is a chapter of NMPW. The organization is open to women and men who work in or study any form of communication, including journalism, photojournalism, fiction writing, graphic design, radio, television, public relations and web-related work.

NMPW, New Mexico's largest inclusive media organization, is open to both men and women. It is an affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women, providing professional development, networking and First Amendment rights protection to professional journalists and communicators.
