Text messages telling voters they aren’t registered or haven’t voted are about as legitimate as a call trying to reach you about your car’s extended warranty, according to the Doña Ana County Clerk’s office.
The messages, often reading something like, “We have you in our records as not registered to vote. Check your registration status and register in 2 minutes at (a URL),” are not coming from the clerk’s office and are likely spam, according to a news release.
“They are a third-party text that has no affiliation with the Doña Ana County Clerk's Office or the New Mexico Secretary of State,” the office said in the news release, noting that they’ve received several calls from voters who've received the messages.
