Las Cruces boys out fast in high school hoops

The Las Cruces High School boys basketball team rolled through the field to win the 2025 LCPS Holiday Hoopla tournament played at Centennial High School Dec. 18-20. The Bulldawgs knocked off Cibola 67-42 in the tourney finale.

Las Cruces (11-0) is ranked No. 3 in the state as it turns the corner in 2026 and district play. Mayfield (7-1) sits at No. 10 in the state rankings.

Led by senior guard Emmitt McDaniel's 15.7 points per game, Organ Mountain is out to a 4-5 start, while senior forward Kouliebchen Tou paces 5-5 Centennial, with 21.1 points and 13.8 boards per contest.

The Centennial girls reached the championship game at the Holiday Hoopla, where they lost to a talented Los Lunas team. Senior post Bella Walter is averaging 10.2 points and 5 rebounds per game for the Hawks (4-5).

Las Cruces (7-4) ran into Los Lunas a round earlier, dropping a semifinal game before facing a strong Valencia squad in the third-place matchup. The Bulldawgs are led by sophomore guard Zoey Barrio, who is scoring 13.5 points a night and forward Sofia Herrera, who scores 11.3 points a game.

The Mayfield girls are 3-4 to begin the campaign, as senior forward Cienna McKines is among the state's top players, averaging 23.3 points and 7 rebounds per contest. Siena Gonzalez is the leading scorer for Organ Mountain (3-4) with 7.7 points per game.
