A local baby is fourth place in a Baby of the Year contest that, if she wins, will reward her and her family with $25,000.
Sigrid Polson is four months old and lives with her mom, dad and an older sibling in Mesquite. Her father, Devin Polson, told the Bulletin that when Sigrid was born, she required time in a neonatal intensive care unit at the hospital.
Devin called Sigrid his “miracle baby.” He said that because of some medical issues, he and his wife weren’t certain they could have children.
“Sigrid has been a blessing. She was able to pull through. She’s my miracle. She’s an absolute daddy’s girl,” he said.
Sigrid is now completely healthy.
“She’s on a really good path,” Devin said.
Sigrid’s mother, Mary Rodriguez, was scrolling on social media recently and came across social media posts about the Baby of the Year contest hosted by Variety Magazine. Mary and Devin created a profile for Sigrid to see what would happen.
People vote for their favorite baby through the contest. There are multiple divisions, so if Sigrid wins the first division, she will have to go through several more rounds to get to the top. But Devin said he is hopeful Sigrid will make it and, so far, she is in fourth place in the first division.
Devin said that with two small children, he is currently a stay-at-home dad while his wife works full-time. Winning the contest, which will come with Sigrid’s face on the cover of Variety Magazine and a full feature story, will be “life-changing,” Devin said.
“It would really help us out immensely. She’s such a sweet baby,” Devin said.
A portion of the proceeds will go toward Sigrid’s future education, Devin said.
