Sandoval convicted in 2024 Mesilla killing

Posted

A jury voted on Jan. 15 to convict Oscar Renee Sandoval of Chaparral, N.M. in the killing of his wife, Shiereen Al-Jibury, in April 2024.

Sandoval, 58, was convicted of first-degree murder and aggravated assault and will face sentencing in the coming months. He faces a potential sentence of life in prison, based on the conviction.

Police accused Sandoval of fatally shooting Al-Jibury, the mother of his children, in Mesilla. In charging documents, police noted that the shooting happened in front of witnesses as Al-Jibury attempted to flee from his vehicle on a quiet segment of University Avenue connecting Mesilla and Las Cruces.

Sandoval was arrested about a week later in Ciudad Juárez and has been held in the Doña Ana County Detention Center since then.

The trial was scheduled to last five days but took just three, beginning on Jan. 12 and ending on the 15th.
