Updated story: Four suspects now arrested in Young Park shooting

Las Cruces Police Department have arrested a fourth suspect in relation to the Young Park shooting that occurred in Friday evening.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested Sunday afternoon.

“About 12:20 p.m. Sunday, March 23, police arrested a 15-year-old boy and charged him with three open counts of murder. The three previous arrests on this case – two 17-year-old boys and 20-year-old Tomas Rivas – all face the same charges. Additional charges are pending for all suspects,” according to a LCPD news release on Sunday, March 23 at 4:18 p.m.

All three juveniles are being held at the juvenile detention center.

Las Cruces Police report that a third suspect has been arrested in relation to the Young Park shooting that took place around 10 p.m. on Friday, March 21.

“Sunday morning, Las Cruces police arrested a third suspect for his involvement in Friday’s mass shooting at Young Park. The third arrestee is a 17-year-old boy. He joins another 17-year-old boy and 20-year-old Tomas Rivas who were arrested Saturday,” according to a Las Cruces Police Department press release on Sunday, March 23.

The third individual will also be charged with three open counts of murder. There are still additional charges pending according to police. Because he is a juvenile, his name is being withheld.

All roads around Young Park are now open.

A Family Assistance and Resource Center will be held until 6 p.m., Sunday, March 23 at the Las Cruces Convention Center located at the Las Cruces Convention Center, 680 East University Avenue.

The Las Cruces Police, Las Cruces Fire Department and community support organizations are hosting the event for families and victims of the Young Park shooting that took three lives and left 15 others injured.

“This multi-faceted resource service is intended to help families and victims from Friday’s tragedy. Crisis counseling, spiritual counseling and connecting victims with local resources and financial assistance will be provided,” according to a Las Cruces Fire Department press release.

LCPD and LCFD are encouraging people impacted by the tragedy to attend.

“Organizers ask news organizations to respect the privacy of families and victims who may be seeking assistance,” according to the release.

Updated at 8 a.m. Sunday, March 23:

Las Cruces Police arrested one adult and one juvenile in connection with the Young Park shooting on March 21 and police have also released the names of the three deceased from the mass shooting incident.

Las Cruces Police Department announced on their Facebook page that they arrested 20-year-old Tomas Rivera and an unnamed 17-year-old boy. The name of the 17-year-old is being withheld because he is a juvenile.

LCPD also named the victims who perished in the Friday night shooting as Andrew Madrid, 16; Jason Gomez, 18; and Dominick Estrada, 19. Madrid and Gomez died on scene. Estrada was transported to MountainView Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries, LCPD said in a Facebook post at 2a.m., Sunday, March 23.

Police arrested Rivera and the 17-year-old juvenile at about 10 p.m. Saturday, March 22.

Police arrested both Rivera and the 17-year-old on three open counts of murder with additional charges still pending. 

The Young Park shooting had 18 victims, including the three who passed away. The additional 15 are still recovering in area hospitals. The shooting took place at about 10 p.m. Friday, March 21, at an unauthorized car show.

Rivas was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center where he is being held without bond. The 17-year- old will be held at a juvenile detention facility. 

LCPD said the investigation is ongoing. 

Of the 15 victims, nine are male and six are female, the LCPD said. To help protect their privacy, police will not release their names publicly.

LCPD is working alongside the FBI, ATF, New Mexico State Police, the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

“Young Park remains closed Saturday evening as police continue gathering evidence from the scene. Nearby roads also remain closed to through traffic,” according to LCPD.
