After spending the last two weeks on the road, the NM State football program returns home Saturday for a 6 p.m. kickoff against the South Carolina State Bulldogs at Aggie Memorial Stadium. Returning home for the first time since Aug. 28 against UTEP, Saturday's contest against South Carolina State will be the first all-time meeting between the two programs, and will mark the first time in program history that the Aggies have faced off with a member of the MEAC conference. more
Mayfield and Las Cruces will meet up in football at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at the Field of Dreams, at the corner of Motel Boulevard and Tashiro Road. According to district Athletics Director Ernie Viramontes, 5,000 tickets will be sold for each high school. No tickets will be sold at the Field of Dreams on game day. more
Las Cruces area high school cross country teams underwent a stiff test over the Labor Day weekend when they traveled to Albuquerque to take part in the Super Cinco Invitational hosted by St. Pius X High School. The 28-school meet featured lots of top competition from around the state and had a different format, Organ Mountain cross country coach David Nunez said. more
In life we have to give up some things to get better things. It’s called “delayed gratification,” and it’s one of those secrets to a successful life that even many adults don’t comprehend. So too in golf, there are things we need to let go of in order to make gains in ability and outcomes. If we want to get better, we are challenged to give up those attitudes and behavior patterns that are holding us back. We must be able to put aside certain beliefs, habits and actions that are no longer serving us well. Let’s examine some of what we should let go of. more
A trio of older women who work out at a Las Cruces gym are making an impact in the sport of weightlifting and they are doing it the natural way. Felica Hale, Storm Sermay and Roberta Stathis set or tied numerous national or state records at the Summer Nationals in Roswell this summer. The event was sponsored by the Natural Athlete Strength Association, which offers competitive weightlifting in a drug-free environment. more
